Moro Islamic Liberation Front

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is a Muslim group located in Southern Philippines.The area where the group is active is called Bangsamoro by the MILF.It is the vangauard of the Islamic movement in Philippines. The MILF was formed in 1977 when Hashim Salamat, supported by ethnic Maguindanaos from Mindanao, split from the Moro National Liberation Front, advocating a more moderate approach toward the government.There are approximately 4.5 million Muslims in the Philippines and most of the muslims live in this area. In 1987, the MILF signed an agreement relinquishing its goal of independence for Muslims region and accept the government offer of autonomy.So,its main objective is to achieve independence of muslims.
